What is VerticalVideo?
What is VerticalVideo?
VerticalVideo is a new kind of streaming experience built for upright screens. Everything we show — from nature scenes to creative short films — is formatted in 9:16, the same vertical ratio used by phones and social video platforms. No turning your head. No letterboxing. Just full-frame, tall-screen content that looks amazing on a rotated TV or tablet.
Why vertical instead of widescreen?
Why vertical instead of widescreen?
Because that’s how we actually hold our devices. More than 90% of social video — TikTok, Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts — is now shot vertically. It’s how creators think and how viewers engage. The vertical frame feels personal, immersive, and immediate — like you’re holding the moment in your hand.
Can I watch VerticalVideo on my TV?
Can I watch VerticalVideo on my TV?
Yes — and it’s easy. If you rotate your TV 90° into portrait mode, VerticalVideo fills the screen perfectly. You don’t need OBS, VLC, or a computer. Streaming sticks and smart TVs don’t natively support true vertical video, but VerticalVideo is designed to just work — one stream, upright and optimized.
Where does the content come from?
Where does the content come from?
We curate a mix of copyright-cleared footage, Creative Commons material, and original re-framed work. Some pieces are ambient and meditative, others are visual experiments — but all are chosen for their vertical beauty. In the future, we’ll feature independent creators who specialize in vertical filmmaking.
How is VerticalVideo different from YouTube Shorts or TikTok?
How is VerticalVideo different from YouTube Shorts or TikTok?
Those platforms are designed for phones and quick scrolls — you watch for 20 seconds, swipe, repeat. VerticalVideo is built for long-form vertical viewing — like ambient cinema for a vertical world. Instead of endless distraction, it’s a continuous, curated experience for tall screens in living rooms, art spaces, and public displays.
Can I submit my own videos?
Can I submit my own videos?
Yes! We’re opening up submissions for vertical creators soon. If you shoot in 9:16 or want to reframe your widescreen footage, you’ll be able to share your work with a growing vertical-first audience.
Does it cost anything to watch?
Does it cost anything to watch?
No — VerticalVideo is free to view. Our mission is to make vertical streaming accessible and show that you don’t need expensive gear or complicated setups to enjoy tall-screen visuals.
Why did you create VerticalVideo?
Why did you create VerticalVideo?
This started as a DIY experiment: how can we make vertical video display correctly on a real TV? After lots of tests in VLC, OBS, and browser streams, we realized there was no simple way to just watch vertical video on a big screen without extra software. VerticalVideo fixes that. It’s plug-and-play, always upright, and reimagines the frame itself.
